Speaking before her husband joined them, Meghan addressed the rumours of a disagreement between herself and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.
In the months following her wedding to Prince Harry, reports circulated that Meghan had left her sister-in-law in tears over Princess Charlotte's flower girl dress.
However, Meghan claims that the "reverse happened."
“A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something,” she clarified, “Yes, the issue was correct about flower girl dresses. She made me cry and it really hurt my feelings.”
"And I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something," she added.
"But she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing."
While Meghan accepted the apology, she admitted feeling shocked when media reports suggested it was Kate who had been reduced to tears.
She described it as the "beginning of a character assassination."
"I would have never wanted that to come out about her ever, even though it happened," she told Oprah, "I protected that from ever being out in the world."
While the couple did admit that their relationships with some members of the royal family are strained right now, she acknowledged that the two are often pitted against each other.
"If you love me, you don't have to hate her," she said, "And if you love her, you don't have to hate me."
