Canada 150 fever is everywhere and there's no place I'd rather be on July 1st than our nation's capital, Ottawa. With celebrities like Bono and Justin Trudeau in attendance and the biggest fireworks ceremony in Canada, this Canada Day is going to be one to remember.

When Ottawa comes to mind, more often than not, the image of a beach doesn't come up in your head first. Fun fact, though: We're much more than cold winters and Parliament. During our (extremely) humid summers, even we're escaping to the beach.

Even though the Ottawa River may not be exactly, erm, swimmable, we still have plenty of beaches to relax and tan when winter finally leaves. Or if it ever leaves. We don't really know *sigh*. I've travelled the world over yet one of the places that's charmed me the most has always been right close to home. Gatineau Park, with its scenic and well-groomed hiking trails and its abundance of ski hills, has never failed to be a treat for the eyes. One of the best parts about the park is its huge network of lakes, big and small.

The lakes of Gatineau Park are made to be enjoyed during all the seasons. In the summertime you can camp on their shores or swim in their waters, and in the fall you can take a hike through the colourful trees surrounding them. Even in wintertime there's this special sense of solitude and vastness that you can't get anywhere else around Ottawa.
