The Georgia Aquarium opened its SHARKS! Predators of the Deep exhibit in late 2020, allowing visitors to get a closer look at the sea predators to which we dedicate a week every year.
But the aquarium has decided to take dedication one step further, allowing you to get up close and personal with the creatures thanks to their new shark cage dive experience.
The immersive experience will place you and up to seven others in a cage with at least two professional divers and take you through the exhibit underwater, where you will see numerous species of sharks including great hammerheads and sand tigers.
"With the intent of turning 'fear' into 'fascination,' this experience is an exploration into the behind-the-scenes of the Sharks! Predators of the Deep gallery and an in-depth look into Georgia Aquarium’s research and conservation efforts with sharks and rays," the aquarium says.
Each guest will be provided a wetsuit, booties, and an optional full-face diving mask.
Those who do not feel comfortable with the diving mask can request a mask and snorkel.
The experience will last around two and a half hours, as each participant will be required to go through an educational orientation before taking the plunge.
This being a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, it comes at a fairly high cost: non-members will have to pay over $230 for a spot, while members have to pay $190.
The aquarium encourages those looking to sign up for a spot to do so quickly, as the program has a very limited schedule.
