Canada's First 'Very Rare' Blood Clot Case Related To A COVISHIELD Vaccine Was Announced
Canada's first case of "very rare" blood clots following the COVISHIELD AstraZeneca vaccine has been reported.
On April 13, The Public Health Agency of Canada said in an email that it received a report of a Canadian resident who experienced this "adverse event."

The person experienced blood clots with low platelets after receiving the COVISHIELD AstraZeneca vaccine and they are now at home recovering.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, these reports are "very rare." Health Canada, which approves vaccines for use, said the benefits of this vaccine still "outweigh the potential risks."
As of April 2, a total of 5,897,445 doses of authorized vaccines have been administered in Canada with adverse events being reported by 3,089 people; that's about five out of every 10,000 people who are vaccinated.
Reports of non-serious side effects account for 0.045% of all doses administered and serious ones for 0.007%.
