Canada's first case of "very rare" blood clots following the COVISHIELD AstraZeneca vaccine has been reported.

On April 13, The Public Health Agency of Canada said in an email that it received a report of a Canadian resident who experienced this "adverse event."

Canada's chief public health officer, Dr. Tam, released a statement on Saturday, April 10 and provided updated numbers on Canada's COVID-19 cases for the week.

"With the current acceleration of COVID-19 activity, approaching the peak of the second wave, and a concerning rise in the proportion of cases that involve more contagious variants of concern, strong public health measures and individual precautions must be sustained," Tam wrote

The cumulative number of Canada's P.1 variant cases has reached 1,023 as of April 7. 

The P.1 COVID-19 virus variant was first detected in Brazil and, according to government data, 878 of Canada's total P.1 cases have been reported in British Columbia.

For two days in a row, Ontario's daily COVID-19 cases are more than 3,000.

Minister of Health Christine Elliot tweeted that there were 3,009 cases reported on April 3 and 3,089 on April 2, which works out to more than 6,000 over the span of two days.
