A Sand Sculpture Wonderland Is Coming To Florida This Month & It's Totally FREE
Florida might not be the first place to come to mind when thinking of a thriving art scene; we wouldn’t blame you if New York City, with its booming art galleries, was the first thing you thought of. But Florida is absolutely bursting with incredible museums and art shows, some of which are expectedly very Floridian. This week, you can witness just such a show at this free sand sculpture fest near Tampa with live music.
The 11th Annual Sanding Ovations Masters Cup is a place where sculpture and music collide, and you can enjoy this free event while watching some of the most incredibly intricate sand sculptures come to life right on the sands of Treasure Island.
Most of us have memories of building sandcastles on the beach when we were young. And admittedly, you may at first be unimpressed with the idea of a sand sculpture contest.
But this exhibition is only for the likes of masters, those of a world-class level. Seriously, the top three sculptures and the People’s Choice winner will be awarded $12,000 in cash prizes.
While you watch the masters at work, there’s a rad lineup for various bands to jam out to, and plenty of food and beverage stalls to pick through.
Judging and voting for the People’s Choice Award will take place Saturday, November 23rd from 3p.m. to 6p.m.
The awards ceremony will be at 7p.m., and you’ll want to stick around for the awesome fireworks display at 10p.m.
