It's news we have all been waiting for - Tampa Bay's beloved amusement park, Busch Gardens, is set to open the state's tallest launch coaster this month.
The ride has been in construction for several months now and was in testing for the past few weeks. After many months of anticipation, the park has finally posted the official opening date on their Instagram: April 19, 2019.
The ride has been named Tigris to reflect it's fierceness like a Tiger. It will be the tallest launch coaster in the entire state, and the park's ninth roller coaster. According to a statement released by the park, this ride is full of twists and turns, loops, drops, a 150-skyward surge, backward motion, and it reaches a top speed of more than 60 miles an hour. The ride is 150 feet tall.
The coaster was built in place of the Tidal Wave ride, and Busch Gardens used a lot of recycled materials from both the Tidal Wave and other attractions in the park for Tigris to promote conservation.
You can see the ride in motion below - and we have to agree, it does look pretty fierce. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
More new rides are on the horizon for Busch Gardens – a second new thrill ride will be coming to the Gwazi area of the park in 2020.
