New Year's In Tampa Will Feature New Tradition With Treasure Chest Booty Drop

As 2019 comes to a close, we're all reminiscing on the good, the bad, and the ugly that we went through this year — 2020 is gonna be our year, and we're ready to ring it in right with an all-new tradition for New Year's in Tampa.

After years of watching a glittering disco ball drop into the city as your maker for the new year, Tampa will change things up with an event that they're calling The New Yarrgh's Eve Booty Drop.

The pirate-themed event will be family-friendly, free, and full of fun leading up to the main event: the dropping of a 320 foot, 3-D mapped projection of a treasure chest.

As the clock counts down to midnight, you can watch the booty drop accompanied by visual effects and pyrotechnics that will create a dazzling display as it lights up the side of the Rivergate Tower building visible from the event venue.

Additionally, the event will have live musical entertainment playing toe-tappin' tunes, as well as offer food and drink available for purchase.

The booty-ful event will take place at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, located at 600 N Ashley Dr, Tampa, FL on December 31st, starting at 9 p.m. and running until 12:30 a.m. on the 1st day of the new year.

According to the event's FAQs, there are several parking options available. You can park for free north of Kennedy Boulevard after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.

The Tampa Streetcar will also offer free rides to the event and will run until 2 a.m.; the downtowner on-demand riding service will be free until 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Parking is available for a nominal rate at multiple locations adjacent to the event as well, which can be seen here.

A designated rideshare drop-off/pick-up location will be set up on Cass St in front of the library.
