You Will Find Some Of Florida's Rarest Species Of Wildlife Hidden At This State Park

The diverse virescent forest and unique ecosystem hidden in North Florida is an ideal spot to go for a hiking expedition. Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park is a picturesque bayou surrounded by rare plants and animal species that will whisk you away to another world.

This state park has a well-groomed wooden boardwalk that leads you into 4,000 acres of endangered plant species and distinctive wildlife.

Its wet prairie habitat is home to many wildlife including the alligator snapping turtle and rare plants like the Chapman's butterwort. The nature trails offer a great hiking opportunity for visitors seeking an adventurous outing.

Tarkiln Bayou State Park has one of the best trails in Florida with a peaceful and beautiful scenic walk. There is a 5.6-mile trail that will lead you into muddy areas and obstacles but it also features a wonderful panoramic view.

If you don't feel like doing a strenuous workout you can opt for the 2-mile loop trail. We recommend you visit the state park during dry season, as it can get very wet and muddy during the rainy season.

During your hiking adventure, you can encounter carnivorous plants, water puddles and wetland wildflowers. Despite the mini ponds along the way, the trails are enjoyable and provide an easy hike for beginners.

The staff at the preserve offers visitors guided walks where they can learn about native plants that occupy the wetlands as well as those areas that are drier like the Pine Flatwoods.

There is an entrance fee of $3 per vehicle and $2 for pedestrians, bicyclists, and extra passengers. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset.

This park is ideal for adventure seekers looking for a different scenic view and summer escape.
