Items From The "Degrassi" Set Are Being Auctioned Off & The Cast Is Super Emotional
If you grew up in Canada in the early 2000s, you've almost certainly heard of a show called Degrassi. Over the years, plenty of reboots and revivals of the show have come and gone, with the most recent one, Degrassi: Next Class ending after its fourth season in 2017. If we're keeping it real, Degrassi is practically a part of Canadian history. If you're a Degrassi fan, we've got some bad news. The Degrassi Community School sign has been sold at the Degrassi auction and other parts of the set are being sold, as well.
After several years of silence from the Degrassi: Next Class producers and cast, former Degrassi star Stefan Brogren confirmed that the show was officially cancelled on March 7, 2019. This summer, news that the school where the show was filmed had been sold also broke, putting any rumours that Degrassi might make yet another comeback to rest.
Since then, fans of the show have been heartbroken, but the news has definitely taken a toll on the cast too. Earlier today, actress Lauren Collins posted on her Instagram page, letting fans know that items from the set are currently up for auction.
"So apparently they’re auctioning off the entire contents of the Degrassi set!? Glad I stole this when I had the chance! ...At 4am during the I’m Upset shoot 😬 #justicefortoby," Collins wrote, posing with a photo of her young co-stars.
Fans of the show have taken to Twitter upon hearing the news, eager to get themselves a little piece of Degrassi history, for the right price of course.
"It’s really sad to me that something as iconic as the Degrassi school sign is probably going to go to someone who will use it for scrap metal," tweeted one Degrassi superfan. "Who’s trying to drive to Canada with me to remove the Degrassi sign?" joked another.
So far, bidding for the Degrassi Community School sign is sitting at CA$675. Other items, like a school bus, are currently going for as much as CA$1,000.
