The Government Of Canada Is Warning Canadians Not To Travel To Parts Of Mexico Due To Increasing Violent Crimes

Canadians love to travel down south to the tropics and attempting to make up for the lack of vitamin D and sunshine in Canada during the harsh winters. Mexico is one of the most popular sun destinations for Canadians, due to its proximity to our country, beautiful beaches, and stunning scenery. Not to mention, there are usually good deals to fly down south to Mexico and all-inclusive resorts await.
Most Canadians travel to Mexico and return safely without encountering any safety issues. However, before you book a trip down to Mexico, you may want to double check where exactly you'll be visiting and if it's safe in that specific area. The Government of Canada is now warning Canadians to avoid traveling to several cities in Mexico, due to high levels of violent crimes.

Just this morning, the government updatedits travel advisory to Mexico and is advising Canadians against visiting the northern and western states in the country.
Popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Cabo and Puerto Vallarta are not mentioned in the advisory and they are not warning Canadians to stop travelling to those areas. However, the government is still telling Canadians to "exercise a high degree of caution" in other cities in Mexico that are not specifically listed in their travel advisory.

"Exercise a high degree of caution in Mexico due to high levels of criminal activity, as well as demonstrations, protests and occasional illegal roadblocks throughout the country," wrote the Canadian government in the travel advisory.

The government is now advising against travel to the following places in Mexico:
Northern Mexico:
- Chihuahua
- Coahuila (except the city of Saltillo)
- Durango
- Nuevo León (except the city of Monterrey)
- Sinaloa (except the city of Mazatlán)
- Sonora (except the cities of Hermosillo and Guaymas/San Carlos)
- Tamaulipas
Western states of Mexico:
- Guerrero (including Acapulco but excluding the cities of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and Taxco)
- Michoacán (excluding the city of Morelia)
- Colima (excluding the city of Manzanillo)
"Avoid non-essential travel to the following northern states due to high levels of violence, linked mainly to organized crime," read the travel advisory.
