The federal government will spend a total of $114.7 million dollars and distribute the funding to different Canadian provinces and cities for temporary housing costs for refugees, according to CTV News. This money will also provide "federal interim lodging facilities" services so that more housing is available to refugees.

This $114.7 million dollars of funding for refugees is on top of the $50 million dollars that Justin Trudeau's government already provided to Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba this past summer in order to help pay for temporary housing for refugees, according to CTV News.

The financial document from the Canadian federal government says that due to the increasing amount of irregular migrants and refugees entering the country, there is now more pressure on provinces to give them housing and social services.

This $114.7 million funding is a part of the federal government's new $2.5 billion dollar spending plan. Trudeau's government will also be spending millions of dollars on international military missions, demand-driven services to veterans, arctic and offshore patrol ships and more.

This announcement comes just a few days after a new report from the University of Calgary revealed that out of all countries, Canada accepted the highest amount of resettled refugees in the entire world in 2018.

In 2018, Canada took the lead for the first time in 72 years and received more planned refugees than any other country in the world. Canada is expected to be the global leader for refugee resettlement in the upcoming years, according to the report.

Just yesterday, the Canadian government stirred controversy when applications to a government program that would allow Canadians to sponsor their immigrant family members into the country to live closed only 11 minutes after it was opened.

This left many Canadians distraught, disappointed and confused that weren't able to submit an application to sponsor their family members. Many will now have to wait another year before attempting to apply again.
