'The Old Guard' Netflix Trailer Teases Charlize Theron With Mysterious Superhuman Powers

She’s back! Throughout her career, Charlize Theron has made a name for herself in Hollywood with movies like Bombshell and A Million Ways to Die in the West. Her latest project, a Netflix original called The Old Guard recently released its trailer, and it shows the actress like never before.

The upcoming film tells the story of Andy, an immortal warrior who also happens to be the leader of a group of mercenaries who are incapable of dying. They’ve made it their life’s mission to protect mankind for centuries, but now the CIA is on their trail.

After taking on a new recruit named Nile, Andy and the latest addition work together to protect the group from those that are hoping to monetize their superhuman abilities.

The Old Guard is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Greg Rucka and was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, who is known for her work on Love & Basketball and Beyond the Lights.

Netflix recently released a first look at the film, but now that the trailer is here, viewers are able to see exactly how much action-packed adventure they have in store when the movie premieres later this summer.

Theron is not the only noteworthy name you’ll see in The Old Guard. Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone), Luca Marinelli (Martin Eden), Kiki Layne (Coming 2 America), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) will all appear in the film as well.

“These types of films — especially action films of this size — usually follow a male character, and there are female characters, but they’re just kind of orbiting around whatever his story is. This film [has] the ability to carry two very strong female stories," Layne said in an interview Entertainment Weekly.

The streaming service has been releasing plenty of action content for viewers so far this year. The Chris Hemsworth-led film Extraction was renewed for a sequel just days after its initial release. 

The Old Guard is coming to Netflix on July 10. You can check out the trailer for the film below.
