As much as we all love dystopian movies about other worlds and things that might never actually happen in real life, sometimes it's nice to sit back and enjoy a movie based on a real story. People go crazy for biopics on famous serial killers or films depicting real-life tragedies, and Netflix has been putting out a ton of these lately! And now, The Red Sea Diving Resort starring Chris Evans is coming to Netflix Canada this month.
If you're not familiar with the backstory, The Red Sea Diving Resort takes place in the 80s. A group of international agents and Ethiopians come together to use a deserted holiday retreat in Sudan as a coverup to smuggle countless refugees into Israel.

The group of agents is led by Ari Levinson (Chris Evans), and the local leader is Kabede Bimro (Michael Kenneth Williams). Other notable actors in the film include Ben Kingsley, Greg Kinnear, Chris Chalk, Michiel Huisman, and Haley Bennett.
The mission itself ran for three years in the 1980s, and saved the lives of thousands of Ethiopian Jews. The holiday resort in question was known as the Arous Holiday Village, also dubbed the "diving and desert recreation centre of Sudan".

The story of how these refugees fled and made it to safety sounds like something straight out of a Hollywood movie — and now, it is. What these people went through is something that most of us can't even begin to imagine, but now we'll be able to get a feel for it on the big screen.
Netflix released the trailer on Wednesday, July 17. The Red Sea Diving Resort will be available for your viewing pleasure on Netflix as of July 31.
