The Hargreeves siblings brought something unique to Netflix last year. They emerged us in an entirely new superhero universe that had nothing to do with the MCU or DC Comics. When it was announced that the show would be returning for another season, it was only a matter of time until they were all back in Toronto making magic happen. Now, The Umbrella Academy season 2 Toronto filming just wrapped and the cast pictures are making us so excited for the next season.
If you aren't familiar with The Umbrella Academy, it's a fictional Netflix Original that hit the platform back in 2019. It's based on the comic books written by Gerard Way and has become one of Netflix's biggest originals.
Netflix describes the series as being about "estranged siblings with extraordinary powers uncover shocking family secrets -- and a looming threat to humanity."
The cast and crew have taken to Instagram to share their experience filming season 2 and their photos are definitely hyping up fans for the upcoming apocalyptic storyline.
Justin Bin who plays Ben, took to Instagram with his newly customized Funko Pop to bid farewell to season 2 filming and basically wrote a love letter to Toronto, "And just like that, Ben and I are headed home. A huge thank you to our cast and crew, who've become a second family to me the last six months; I’ll miss seeing your beautiful faces every day. And Toronto, I fall more in love with you every year — especially when I can run away right before winter gets bad. I can't wait for you guys to see what we’ve been working on. Season 2 is gonna be wild."
Tom Hopper who plays Luther in the series also took the time to thank the cast and Canadian crew for all their hard work, "Our crew on @umbrellaacad are some of the hardest working I’ve ever come across. They work insane hours to help make the show what it is. We are two days away from the end of shooting season 2, and this crew has done us immensely proud. We can’t thank you enough for the hard work you all put in. Round of applause for all the guys like these two who are the real family of superhero’s behind #umbrellaacademy."
David Castaneda even posted a whole video letting us know how the season 2 wrap went, "This will last 30 seconds...update. Umbrella is wrapped. The crew is amazing and I’m gonna sleep for a full day or so."
While Canadian Ellen Page hasn't posted anything about finishing off the season, she did post a cast photo a few weeks back that made our hearts flutter and confirmed how connected this cast is.
The original release date for season 2 was estimated to be sometime in 2021, but filming has wrapped sooner than was expected.
That means we may be getting the next installment of the Hargreeves adventure as quickly as summer 2020.
