Buckle up for another wild ride! A mystery drama series based on a Harlan Coben novel is dropping so soon. The American author is the mind behind newly released The Stranger, and now The Woods on Netflix promises another round of mysterious and thrilling fun.
The 58-year-old best selling author took to Twitter recently to share the release date of the upcoming series.
Writing that he's "Thrilled to announce this", Harlan shared that The Woods is premiering worldwide on Netflix on June 12.
Attached to the tweet is a video with a brief caption that reads, "time reveals all secrets".
According to Deadline, the mystery thriller was first announced in September 2019 as a Polish original.
The six-part series will be set in two time periods, present time 2019 and the past in 1994.
It follows Paweł Kopiński, a Warsaw prosecutor grieving his sister who vanished from the woods while attending summer camp 25 years ago. While her body was never found, authorities assumed she was an alleged victim of a serial killer.
"But now, the discovery of a homicide victim – a boy who vanished along with Paweł’s sister – reveals evidence that links him to her disappearance. As hope rises that his sister could still be alive, dangerous secrets from his family’s past threaten to tear apart everything that Paweł has been trying to hold together," Deadline writes.
Thrilled to announce this: THE WOODS. Netflix. Worldwide. June 12. Put it your watchlist now. https://t.co/rRtiNFH1HK— Harlan Coben (@Harlan Coben)1588774416.0
Coben shared that he's "so proud to be teaming up with this incredible cast and crew from Poland – and helping introduce their brilliant work to Netflix’s global audience."
Director Leszek Dawid called The Woods, "a story full of secrets – a story you will want to follow. Try as hard as you might to bury unresolved issues from the past, but one day they will find their way back to you anyway. What I find fascinating is the way the film deals with the idea of a carefree adolescence. Looking back at the time in your life when you lived your most beautiful but, at the same time, your most atrocious experiences."
According to IMDb, Kopiński will be played by Grzegorz Damiecki with Hubert Milkowski playing his younger self. Other stars include Jacek Koman, Agnieszka Grochowska, Cezary Pazura, and Magdalena Czerwinska.
Coben's official website notes that he's the author of over two dozen novels including titles The Boy from the Woods, Missing You, Six Years, The Innocent, and Gone For Good.
He is the creator and executive producer for the British adaptation of The Stranger which premiered on Netflix on January 30. It follows a man who gets approached by a strange woman who tells him a devastating secret that severely impacts his life and marriage.
The thrilling series earned itself an 89% rating on Google and 7.3/10 on IMDb.
Other series from Coben you can stream on Netflix are Safe and The Five.
