These 10 Canadian Cities Topped Expedia's List Of Coolest Downtown Areas

Canada has some pretty amazing natural beauty, but what a lot of travellers to the country might not know is that our cities' downtowns are a sight worth seeing, even in places beyond the well-known metropolises like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.

Expedia knows just how cool our downtowns are, and after conducting a survey that found that 1 in 3 travellers want to stay in a downtown areas rather than more rural towns, they have compiled a list of the country's top 10 best downtowns in Canada.

Stating that the downtown core is where the "magic happens" in any city, they explained that their decision for ranking was based on a number of factors, including "innovative art scenes, top walk scores, and that little je ne sais quoi that makes a city unforgettable."

And the city that made #1 is honestly surprising! Some Canadians may have never heard of this southwestern-Ontario that earned the #1 spot, but Expedia thinks it's the best downtown in all of Canada!

Here are the 3 cities that topped Expedia's list:

1. St. Thomas, ON

According to Expedia, the small downtown core of St. Thomas is just brimming with "art crawls, craft beer, and international cuisine." It's definitely not the most popular city in Canada or even Ontario, but it does have an undeniable charm!

2. Downtown Toronto, ON

We pretty much expected this one, but Expedia seems to think the city's Kensington Market, "hip" street culture, vegetarian eats, and nightlife city staples like Sneaky Dee's make it worthy of the #2 spot.

3. Downtown Moose Jaw, SK

Another surprise in the top 3 is Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Hailing the city for its outdoorsy appeal, street art, and overall accessibility (including a downtown trolley), Expedia granted this quaint town the #3 spot.

And here are the rest¬†of the top 10 cities that made the list! Might also be a surprise to see that Qu√©bec City and Vancouver are near the bottom...ūü§Ē

4. Downtown Winnipeg, MB

5. Downtown Brandon, MB

6. Downtown Lunenburg, NS

7. Downtown Longueuil, QC

8. Downtown Québec City, QC

9. Downtown Burnaby, BC

10. Downtown Vancouver, BC
