The Canadian job market can be tricky to break into, causing some people to relocate to a different country altogether. There can be a lot of opportunities for people working around the world, especially for expats - people who move from their country of origin.

Whether you're looking for better career options or are simply in search of adventure, there are a few countries where expats and foreigners can earn more money than others. In fact, global bank HSBC surveyed thousands of ex-pats around the world to find out where were the best places to live.

Based on the average income of all the ex-pats surveyed around the world, all working in different fields, they determined the best countries to make money as a foreigner. They found that in these 12 countries, on average expats can earn over $100,000 annually. 

1. Switzerland

Beyond being the most neutral country historically, one of the happiest places to live, and perfectly located in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is also home to the highest average annual income for ex-pats with people earning $202,865/year.

2. USA 

This seems like an obvious choice, considering a lot of Canadians are already moving to the US for work or to escape our brutal winters on the sunny shores of Florida. But now, you have even more reason to go there since on average, ex-pats make $185,119/year.

3. Hong Kong

Asia is the new frontier when it comes to the technology industry. If you're looking to get into technology development or any other career, Hong Kong is a good choice for ex-pats with the average income being $178,706/year.

4. China

If Hong Kong isn't quite your thing but you want to still be in Asia, China is another great choice for foreign workers looking to make a good income. The average income for ex-pats in China is a comfortable $172,678/year.

5. Singapore

If watching "Crazy Rich Asians" gave you serious FOMO and you want in on some of that money-making action, you can make all your dreams come true by moving to Singapore, where the average ex-pat income is $162,172/year.

6. United Arab Emirates

Dubai has been the rising star of world cities lately from building the world's tallest tower to having a luxury shopping scene and avid nightlife. It's also a great place for ex-pats to work with the average income being $155,039.

7. India

As one of the biggest populated countries in the world, India is full of business opportunities and as it turns out it also has tons of opportunities for foreigners to make some more money. The average ex-pat income is $131,759/year.

8. Indonesia 

If you're looking to live that island life, look no further than Indonesia. Not only will it give you all the tropical vibes you need but also excellent financial opportunities with the average ex-pat income being $127,980/year.

9. Japan

With the number of Asian countries on this list, it's clear that Asia is at the forefront of opportunities for ex-pats. Japan further cements that by taking ninth place on this list with the average ex-pat salary being $127,362/year.

10. Australia

It's been said before that Australia is really similar to Canada, but arguably even better since there's no snow there. So, if you're looking to leave home and pursue a whole new career, Australia is a great choice since the average income for ex-pats is $125,803/year.

11. Malaysia 

If Singapore isn't enough to fulfil your "Crazy Rich Asians" fantasies, you could try moving to the place where the movie was actually filmed - Malaysia. Not only is the country full of luxury and paradise, but the average ex-pat income is $117,269/year.

12. Bahrain

The final place where you could earn six figures as an ex-pat is yet another Asian Island nation. Bahrain is a small kingdom in the Pacific but with big opportunities for ex-pats who can earn $102,670/year.
