Come mid-July Calgarians are often in denial or in the first few stages of the grieving process. Your wallet stings from spending 10 days at the beer gardens, your feet are sore from ill-fitted cowboy boots, and you might be yearning to dance in a formation less linear. Stampede is over, and it feels like summer has one foot out the door. We've reached and passed that halfway point, and that's pretty hard to accept.
Hold on to that sunshine feeling for just a little while longer, Calgary's Fiestaval will offer Latin food, drink and music this July and you won't want to miss it. We dare you to try not to dance, sing or smile your way right into Monday morning. This weekend will really have it all.
Defeat that post-stampede feeling, and defend the best season of the year with a margarita in one hand, a churro in the other. Surrounded by all the most vibrant colours, the sauciest sounds, and tastiest treats, experience Latin American heritage in high definition.
Founded in 1996, this celebration of the local Latin community encourages multiculturalism and unity and continues to advocate for cultural awareness. Inhale Calgary's garden of diversity, during this one of a kind weekend.
The massive three-day party will feature hundreds of talented acts from within the local Latin community and performers from across Western Canada.
Enjoy authentic food vendors of plenty! It'll feel like Taco Tuesday every day, with inventive variations of the Latin favourite. Snack on tamales that will blow your mind, or dip into some guacamole that'll change your life and put your tongue to the test with hot sauce and salsas from all over the Scoville Scale.
Move those hips, because you know they won't lie, over to the dozens of artisan booths for beautiful one of a kind handcrafted gifts, and then shimmy and shake to the beer gardens, where you can quench your thirst with award-winning sangria, a mojito or just an ice-cold cerveza.
Remember how we said your bank account might be on the mend from Stampede week? We haven't even gotten to the best part yet. This event is free! Wander in and out, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Festival without having to pay a dime.
Fiestaval will take place on July 19 until July 21, running from 11 AM until 11 PM on Friday and Saturday. The festival will run from 11 AM until 10 PM on Sunday.
The event will take place at Olympic Plaza at 228 8th Avenue Se in Calgary.
