Have you ever heard of a Dachshund parade? Because we sure haven't until today, and we are so glad we found out about it. According to the organizer of possibly the cutest event ever, a Dachshund parade is coming to Kelowna this weekend. This event is going to be filled with costumes, prizes, and all the puppy love you could possibly imagine.

B.C. is no stranger to niche events. From Lego pop up bars to massive dog meetups, this province probably has an event for everything. There was even a massive guinea pig festival in Toronto this year, proving that Canadians everywhere love a good animal meet up.

The latest and most adorable animal event is happening in Kelowna on Sunday, October 27. This event, called the Howl-O-Weenie walk, will consist of Dachshunds - a lot of Dachshunds.

Narcity spoke with Howl-O-Weenie walk organizer Emily Enoch for all the details. Enoch says that this event will have Dachshunds dressed to the nines as they parade through the streets of downtown Kelowna with their owners.

According to Enoch, there will be about 50 people and dogs attending the event this Sunday. “We basically all dress up and parade ourselves downtown for some laughs in the spirit of Halloween."

In order to walk in the event, you must have a Dachshund. But that doesn't mean you can't watch the adorableness ensue. People are encouraged to come down and take it all in. Maybe you can even pet a dog or two!

“We do it every year for the fun of it but it not only gets the dogs out for some enrichment, it gets the community together,” explains Enoch. “Also, we make a lot of smiles happen as we walk by.”

This year, the event is partnering with Bosleys for a costume contest. After the parade is done, the winner will be announced at their store. Winners will get goody bags filled with anything a four-legged creature could want.

According to Enoch, the winner of the couples costume contest last year was handmaids “tail” cosplay. Genius.

The walk is set to start at 1 p.m. sharp by the Cactus Club waterfront location. From there, everyone will walk to the bridge and back, wagging their tails the whole way.

If you’re in need of a good smile and some animal therapy then this event is most definitely for you. See you there!
