BC is full of wonderful secrets. From hidden crystal blue lakes and swimming holes to hiking trails through caves and emerald green forest rivers, the province has so many hidden gems to enjoy. One little-known spotfull of natural beauty that really stands out just so happens to also have a winery! Why does anyone ever leave BC?
Damali Lavender & Winery on Vancouver Island has a magical field of fragrant lavender and a winery that offers free tastings of their wines—some of which are actually made with lavender! You can visit the farm and go on a self-guided tour of the fields this summer. There's even a meditative lavender labyrinth where you can slowly tread along a mystical path, breathing in the scent of lavender as you go! Right now, their lavender is just starting to bloom and will be all of its purple splendor over the next couple of months so you have to check this place out ASAP!
Their wines include traditional, fruit and floral options that all wine lovers can get behind. One of their most popular summertime wines is made with rhubarb! All of their wine is produced on site with a lot of care and attention in very small batches. They only produce a small amount each year from their own grape vines and estate orchards.
You can find Damali Lavender & Winery on Vancouver Island's Cowichan Valley in Cobble Hill. It's about a 3.5-hour drive from Vancouver and less than an hour from Victoria. It's totally free to visit the farm and they even offer free wine tastings!
There are more than a dozen wineries in the Cowichan Valley nearby so it would make a great destination for any wine-lover. If you're so crazy about lavender that you want to see more, you can check out BC's largest lavender farm nearby on Salt Spring Island.
