Once the leaves start to fall and we get our first taste of the chilly season, we all have our own traditions and favourite spots around the city we like to hit up to get in the holiday spirit. Whether you go to VanDusen Gardens every year for their holiday lights or make a point to ride the carousel at the Vancouver Christmas Market, there's always something fun to do around the holidays. Vancouver can start to get excited for the holiday season already because we now officially know that the Aurora Winter Festival is coming back!
Last year, the North Pole-inspired Aurora Winter Festival debuted in Vancouver and it was a huge success. From their outdoor skating rink and magical tunnel of light to the chimney cakes and magical light sculptures — it was a ton of fun!
This year, the festival is happening not at Concord Pacific Place again but instead at Hastings Park, AKA the PNE fairgrounds. Plus, Aurora will be bigger than last year. Actually, it's going to be four times the size which could mean four times the holiday lights and four times the magic.
The ice rink was one of the top reasons to go to Aurora last year, and the rink will be even bigger at this year's festival. Plus, the tube park will be longer and there's going to be double the amount of rides and games!
Plus, the new venue is Hastings Park where there are trees, grass, and even a little pond. That means that the experience will be more magical because it'll feel like you're actually in a magical winter wonderland rather than just a parking lot of Concord Pacific Place, let's be honest.
Expect to see giant light sculptures and displays and a holiday market with over 40 vendors. Of course, there will be food trucks on hand to keep you warm with food and drink.
This event can be a little more geared towards families and there are costumed characters and storytime with Santa, but still, there's a ton of things to do and see if you're not six years old!
You have to get tickets for this magical winter festival and experience the North Pole inspired magic for yourself! Tickets are on sale now, and you can subscribe for updates on their website.
