Looking for a unique day trip idea this spring? A trip out to the Kensington Prairie Farm is one of the most adorable road-trips you can do just outside of Vancouver! If you've never been to an alpaca farm before then you don't know what you're missing. These goofy cuties have so much personality and spunk that you'll want to take one home with you.
What makes this farm so special is that the alpacas have lots of room to roam and explore and they're so close to Vancouver. There's another alpaca farm in Vernon where you can take the alpacas for a walk but that's a five-hour drive away from Vancouver and you can't fit it in on a day trip. Meeting these alpacas instead is a great respite from city life if only for one afternoon.
What exactly is an alpaca? Alpacas are from South America where they live near the Andes mountains. People make fibres from their soft, fluffy fur just like you would with a sheep. They're basically like sheep with long necks and long legs. They kind of look like and are often confused with llamas but an alpaca is a lot smaller than a llama.
You can visit the Kensington Prairie Farm by appointment from Monday to Thursday for $7.50 per person. It's a one-hour drive away from Vancouver. Check out their website to learn more and to book your visit! This is one of the best day-trips you can do if you or your friends are total animal-lovers.
We strongly advise that before you go visit any location, you check the most recent updates on potential hazards, security and animal rights. If you do plan to visit a location, respect the environment and the animals.
