When the holidays roll around, we Canadians tend to think of snow, warming up by the fireplace and wrapping our hands around a cup of Timmie's hot chocolate. If you've ever wanted to escape the snow and lose yourself in a tropical paradise, you can do that In B.C. without stepping foot on a plane. Vancouver's Bloedel Conservatory is transforming into a holiday wonderland that will make you feel it's Christmas in Hawaii.

The conservatory is itself no secret. It's right in the middle of Queen Elizabeth Park overlooking the city and it's a popular place to go when you need a break from Vancouver for an afternoon.

But this place often gets overlooked during the holiday season for places like Canyon Lights and VanDusen Gardens which is a shame because it's super toasty and beautiful inside.

Underneath a groovy glass-like dome, the conservatory is basically an oasis garden in the heart of the city.

Filled with 150 birds who fly free and call the magical dome home, you'll feel like you're wandering through a jungle rather than being in cold and rainy Vancouver this holiday season.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Bloedel Conservatory and they're celebrating with what's going to be their most magical holiday event yet.

Called Festivale Tropicale, this is a super affordable event that you have to slip into your calendar this season if you're craving a tropical escape.

The tropical dome filled with exotic and lush plants will be dripping with holiday lights.

It's as close as you can get to a tropical escape without needing your passport.

The conservatory is home to birds like parrots and even budgies and it's amazing to hear them chatter and watch them flit around their home.

When the dome is decorated with lights, it becomes even more magical and it's a perfect evening because you get to warm up inside the warmth of the dome.

If you are checking out the holiday lights at VanDusen garden, then you'll actually get a free pass to Festivale Tropicale when you leave.

It's an easy way to save money during the holidays while still having a blast and catching all the magic that the season has to offer.
