You Can See Huge Fiery Pumpkin Pyramids At Waterford Pumpkinfest This Weekend
These jack-o'-lanterns are particularly jacked.
October is the month for anything that has to do with pumpkins. It's time to get into the fall spirit, watch the leaves change colour, carve a couple of pumpkins, and dress up for Halloween. This year, why not head over to the annual Waterford Pumpkinfest and see their huge pumpkin pyramid and Halloween parade?
Waterford, a village community around 60 kilometres southwest of Hamilton, Ontario, hosts its annual Pumpkinfest each year. The all-encompassing event is put on by the Waterford Lions & Lioness to celebrate their community and help raise funds for tons of community projects.
The event, which takes over the village each year, is completely free to attend, and the website lists a ton of things to do. Activities include seeing the incredible towering pumpkin pyramids that are created each year and light up like a towering inferno.
"We have giant pumpkin pyramids, 30 or 40 feet-high pumpkin pyramids," Matt Suckel from Waterford Lions told Narcity. "All the local schoolchildren carve pumpkins and they bring them down and they put them on the pyramids and they're all lit up." It's truly a terrific sight.
If that doesn't do it for you, there's plenty of other stuff you can do, like watching their annual parade and car show, listening to live bands, and trying some craft beer and cider.
"This is the 37th year we've been running," Suckel continued. This is the 10th year the Lions have handled the event.
"On Sunday, we have a large car show. The most cars we ever had in the past was about 1,000, so I'm hopeful we can hit there again.
The parade, the car show, and the marketplace, plus the fireworks, are the four biggest things for us."
A full list of activities available at the festival can be found here, and it also includes a "spookhouse" as well as a pumpkin-carving contest and a soapbox derby.
Suckel says some of the fest's activities are weather-dependant, but this could be a lucky weekend ifis accurate.
So, with a warm fall weekend ahead, grab your pumpkins, and head over to Waterford for a fantastic weekend!
