You Can Ride An Enchanting Dog Sled Through An Ontario Forest This Winter
If there's one thing we can always count on, it's epic snowfall in Ontario. And even if you're not actually too fond of the cold, there are so many super fun winter activities in the province that will totally make you forget about how freezing it is out there. Skating and tobogganing are a few classics, but if you're looking for a more exciting choice, then this Ontario dog ride is just the thing.
Being escorted through the forest with pretty much the cutest dogs ever is pretty magical, and romantic. And it's actually quite the adrenaline rush too, making this a perfect winter date idea.
North Ridge Ranch in Huntsville, Muskoka has a large pack of simply gorgeous Alaskan Huskies whose strength and speed are something to really marvel at.
Of course, half the fun comes from giving these doggos all of the pets and love they deserve.
With over 60 dogs on-site, there's so much cuteness for you and bae to take in when you visit the ranch. Of course, wintery Muskoka views are pretty breathtaking as well.
So, if you're looking for the perfect winter activity to share with your BFFs or your one true, why not give this a shot?
Ranch owners Brad and Leah Fetterley tell Narcity that they have been operating this dog sledding business on their property since 2001, and the dogs really draw a crowd.
"Our visitation is usually around 1500 people per winter."
On your trip, you can expect a team of roughly five to eight huskies to pull you through the woods.
Each sled can hold two people, one passenger and one driver. A guide will lead in front on their own dogsled to make sure everything runs smoothly and can take a passenger as well if you're a group of three.
But hang on tight. These pups can travel up to 30 kilometres per hour, though they usually keep it to about 15.
Naturally, these powerhouse pups need some rest too.
"Rest between rides is dependent on each dog," the Fetterleys tell Narcity. "Some dogs only run one tour a day and some dogs run both tours. Generally, there are about one to one-and-a-half hours between the time the morning tour gets back to the kennel and when the afternoon tour heads out."
So, prior to your ride, be sure to show the pups some love.
While some dogs are timider around strangers than others, they're all very friendly and most of them love pets, according to the North Ridge Ranch website.
There are two types of trips to choose from. A one-hour option and a half-day option. The one-hour will cost $135 while the half-day will cost $205 per person.
So, if you're a dog lover, a snow lover, or you just fancy finally getting that true Canadian dog sled experience, why not make this the year?
