Want to try something new, or are you looking to satisfy some of your healthy cravings? Well, a new event coming to Niagara-on-the-Lake is sure to change the way you think of grilling. Canada's first-ever sustainable fire-grilling festival is coming next weekend, focusing on sustainable seafood and plant-based dishes, and is looking to establish itself as the Ontario plant-based grill.
If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, The Canadian Table Sustainable Food Festival is definitely worth checking out! It's undeniably a pescatarian's dream and is sure to appeal to those looking for healthier and more sustainable food options.
Plant-based food options are all the rage in Canada right now, whether it's the hotly-debated Tim Hortons Beyond Meat Burger, or Subway following suit with a new sandwich, or restaurants looking to cater to the late-night eaters.
The Canadian Table is looking to take advantage of that trend and extend the plant-based craze to the traditionally meatiest of cooking styles, grilling.
From Aug. 16-18, you can expect to wine and dine at this fun-filled event.
The full schedule includes a mixology competition between five of the best bar stars on Friday, and six professional chefs dicing it out to prove whose dish is superior.
From Top Chef Canada and the Food Network, chefs from across Canada will be on hand satisfy your taste buds. One of the best things about it? The dishes are for sale and are relatively modestly-priced, ranging from $10 to $20.
"The culinary world is changing, and this festival is a sign of the times, as chefs who may have been known as meat mavens in the past are now focused on this culinary trend that is making waves globally," says Eric Pateman of Edible Canada Culinary Experiences to Narcity.
"This is your chance to not only come out and meet these chefs face-to-face and eat some incredible food, but check out what they are doing that will change the way you view healthy eating!"
Are you interested in going but have no way to get there? Looks like it is your lucky day! There is a GO train weekend deal for those wanting to venture to Niagara before the summer ends, and this could be the perfect weekend combination!
For any aspiring future chefs, two lucky culinary students going to Niagara College will also receive two $500 bursaries during the festival.
This event is free to attend but if you're interested in trying out the food, prices range from $10 to $20, depending on the dish served.
Make sure to add this to your "To Do List" before the summer sun goes away!
