As usual, the countdown to the weekend began at roughly 12 a.m. Monday "morning," are we right?! As we inch closer and closer to Friday, it's time to make some solid weekend plans. With plenty of fun-filled events going on, there are more than enough things to do in Ottawa this weekend, Sept. 13-15.

Have you ever wanted to peek inside a house in the Glebe? Or touch a live starfish? Well, this weekend is your chance! From comedy queens to enormous Nerf gun battles, live-action detective games, and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the capital. 

Glow Sport Ottawa West

Why You Need To Go: You can check out the grand opening Ottawa West's massive 10,000 sq. ft. glow-in-the-dark sports facility. Break stuff in the smash-room, participate in epic Nerf gun battles, get your face painted and more! There will be prizes and on-site giveaways for the opening as well as drinks and snacks!


Sibling Rivalry 

Price: $40-$105

When: Saturday, Sept. 14, doors open @ 7:30 p.m.

Why You Need To Go: You can see two hilarious Ru Paul's Drag Race winners in a live version of their podcast, Sibling Rivalry. The meet-and-greet tickets are sold out but seats to the show are still available. So grab your BFF and get ready for some laughs at Algonquin Commons Theatre. 


Insta-Woof Walk

Price: Free

When: Sunday, Sept. 15 @ 10 a.m.

Address: Major's Hill Park

Why You Need To Go: You can meet up with other Ottawa Dogs of Instagram for a walk in downtown Ottawa. The walk will start on the north side of Major's Hill Park. Be sure to take lots of pictures along the way using the designated hashtag for a chance to be featured on the Ottawa Tourism page. You should register before midnight on Sept. 11 and the first 60 who do so will receive a free Ottawa bandana.


Orleans Ribfest

Price: Free admission

When: Friday, Sept. 13 to Sunday, Sept. 15

Why You Need To Go: You can enjoy a smokey, saucy rack of ribs in Ottawa's east end this weekend! Enjoy classic ribs, pulled pork, chicken, cheesecake on a stick, poutine, and more. Go on, pig out!


Ottawa Detective Day

Price: $65 per team

When: Saturday, Sept. 14 @ 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Address: Various downtown locations

Why You Need To Go: If you loved playing "Clue" as a kid, then this large-scale live-action detective game was made for you! You and a team of up to six friends can spend the day wandering through downtown Ottawa questioning virtual witnesses and trying to crack the case! Prizes will be awarded for best costumes, detective dogs, team name, and more! We're not lying! Or are we? Check the event page for more details.


Glebe House Tour

Price: $30 advance tickets

When: Sunday, Sept. 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why You Need To Go: You can take a look inside some of the Glebe's nicest homes. These private house tours are hosted by Glebe Neighbourhood Activities Group. They showcase unique and interesting homes in the area which can give you inspiration for your own space. What's more, the tour ends with tea and baked goods at the Glebe Community Centre. 


Refreshing Water

Price: $15 general admission

When: Sunday, Sept. 15 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why You Need To Go: To kick off science and literacy week, The Canadian Museum of Nature is inviting people to touch live starfish and sea cucumbers. You can even taste some algae if you're feeling brave! You can learn about the unique plant and animal life in tidal pools. You'll also learn about plastics in the ocean, and hear from a professional diver and author.


James Street Pub The Last Hurrah

When: Saturday, Sept. 14 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Why You Need To Go: You can enjoy one last night at the iconic James Street Pub before the closedown forever. Come listen to live DJs and bands, and (after a few brews) participate in the final Rock Star Karaoke! The entertainment will begin at 3 p.m. but you can come in all day to say a casual goodbye with your favourite pub food.
