We all know doing anything on a long weekend can get pricey real quick but, luckily, there are plenty of budget-friendly activities throughout the Ottawa area to enjoy. If you're looking to give your wallet a break then thesewill make the perfect long weekend plans!
End Of Summer Jam Silent Party
Location: Kinki Lounge, Ottawa
Why you need to go: You can light up the Byward Market at this glitter and glow-themed dance party. Choose songs from a wide music library to pump through the provided headphones and even enjoy free body and face painting between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. If you're one of the first 50 people to attend you'll also receive free glow sticks and necklaces.
Fun Through The Falls
Location: Victoria Park, Smiths Falls
Why you need to go: You can learn about local history and take in beautiful views as you peacefully row along the Rideau Canal on this guided canoe tour. Listen to the calming sounds of water and learn something new about Smiths Falls while you do. The tour will start at Victoria Park and end at Lower Reach Park. Tickets for this activity go on sale Aug. 27.
Zumba On The Hill
Location: Parliament Hill, Ottawa
Why you need to go: Who knew working out could be so much fun? Led by certified Zumba instructors, this totally free dance party is the perfect way to enjoy the last summer long weekend. You can attend Zumba on the hill every Sunday starting at 4 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to participate at their own pace, so people of all skill levels should feel welcomed to enjoy!
The Great Water War
Location: Renfrew Armouries, Renfrew
Price: $15 per team
Why you need to go: In teams of five, you and your BFFs can go head-to-head in the most epic water gun fight of the summer! Not only is this a fun way to beat the late summer heat, but you can also win a $100 or $50 gift basket! Some proceeds from the event will go to Hospice Renfrew. There are certain water guns that are not allowed, so be sure to check the website first!
Ottawa Champions Game
Location: Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park, Ottawa
Why you need to go: With games all weekend long, this is a super affordable way to spend time with friends outside and support your local team! Baseball fan or not, everyone can enjoy the weather and join in on fun crowd cheering. Grab a hotdog and a bevvie and enjoy a good old ball game.
Flying Monsters In 3D
Location: Canadian Museum Of Nature, Ottawa
Price: $4 + $10 admission
Why you need to go: While it's not technically outside, this epic flying monsters movie is being shown at the Canadian Museum of Nature, which is basically outside, right? You can learn about the crazy pterosaurs who used to dominate the skies and even tour the rest of the museum. In addition to the $4 movie ticket, you will also need to pay the $10 general admission price.
