Ziplining above the Ottawa river will have to wait until next year. The opening of Interzip Rogers has been delayed until the spring of 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you were ready to zoom over Canada's capital region this summer, you'll just have to dream about it.

Interzip Rogers was originally slated to open this summer but its organizers announced that it's going to be put off until next year.

Just blame COVID-19 for this delay.

Construction on the nearly 1,400-foot long zipline had to be halted because of the pandemic and all the public health measures that were put in place.

However, that work is set to resume this summer.

When it finally opens, you will be able to fly over Ottawa and Gatineau for spectacular sights of both cities.

That makes it the first interprovincial zipline in the world.

Interzip Rogers is a collaboration between Orkestra, an Ottawa-based advertising agency and Zibi, a mixed-use development at Gatineau's waterfront.

Rogers Communication is a sponsor of the attraction so that's where part of the name comes from.

"Given the current context, it is impossible for us to guarantee a launch and experience that would meet our visitors' expectations," said Alex Van Dieren, co-president of Orkestra, to Ottawa Matters.

When the attraction was first announced in December 2019, its launch was slated for the following summer.

It's said that distance makes the heart grow fonder so maybe having to stay away until next year will make the ride even more exciting.

Once it opens, you can soar 120 feet above the Ottawa River.

From your vantage point high above both cities, you'll get 360-degree views of the Parliament buildings, downtown Gatineau and Chaudière Falls.

This interprovincial zipline isn't the only thing being impacted by COVID-19 in the capital region.

Cafes and restaurants have closed permanently, Ottawa's Farmers' Market is going online and people have been told to not going to their cottages in the region.

Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa are even going to be entirely virtual this year.
