If you need a break from the heat, this waterpark in the Gulf Coast is back open for the summer. Waterville USA reopens in Alabama, marking the return of fun to the resort town of Gulf Shores. This massive waterpark is perfect for those looking to escape the sweltering Alabama sunrays.

The COVID-19 pandemic threatened to pull the plug on the fun. However, on May 22, Governor Kay Ivey announced that movie theaters and tourist attractions could reopen. Since then, the combined water amusement park was able to invite guests back just in time for weary homebound Alabamians to reclaim their summer.

While the watery thrill park is back open for business, the experience will be temporarily tinkered to stop the flare-up of COVID-19. The park has implemented CDC guidelines that require frequent sanitation, social distancing, and capacity limits within the park.

The park sits on 20-acres of prime Gulf Shores real estate just a 1/4 mile away from the beach. According to the park's website, Waterville USA has spent over $10 million keeping the park fresh and up-to-date to compete with the state's other parks.

The centerpiece on the waterpark side is the Dune Racer, a six-person slide that will take riders through twists and turns in a tunnel of darkness before pushing them down into a steep drop.

There's also the Jet Stream, a slide that will intimidate visitors just by its sheer height. For those who are brave enough to take on the ride, you'll be in for a high speed, 350-foot drop that will leave you breathless and earning courage stripes.

If you don't feel like getting wet, the amusement park side offers plenty of fun as well.

You'll have a full slate of things to do here, from Cyberville Virtual Reality to Launch Pad, a trampoline attraction that allows you to test your jumping skills.

Since it's opening in 1986, Waterville USA has provided hours of slidin' and splashin' on the Alabama Gulf Coast and will continue to welcome guests this summer.
