The first underground wineries in California were built way back in the 1860s. One hundred and sixty years later, there are still quite a few hidden gems sprinkled across the state. Oak Mountain Winery is one that you definitely need to add to your 2020 travel list.

This little treasure is located right in the heart of Temecula near San Diego, California.

Want to know one of the coolest things about it? You can dine 75 feet underground in an enchanted wine cave surrounded by sparkling lights and cool stone walls.

Since this is a popular spot, reservations are required. If you want to snag a table, you can book your spot here.

Tour prices range from $25 per person for an oil and cheese tour to $49 for other cave tours. The restaurant, simply called 'The Cave' is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, serving up delicious reds, whites, rosé, and bubblies.

If you're in the mood for a snack, the wines pair nicely with a delicious charcuterie board of selected meats, cheeses, and other trays served with homemade blackberry jam. Yum.

Oher food menu options include a bison burger, various flatbreads, soups, salads, and sandwiches.

Not only is the interior lovely to look at, but it's also a great way to beat the evening heat of those summer afternoons heading our way.

Fun fact — these caves allow the winemakers to utilize the land more and make prime conditions for aging your favorite blend.

The caves aren't just for barrel-aging though, you can also host a bachelorette party wine-down or a super romantic dinner date if you ask us. The icy blue and purple lighting is a nice touch.

You can enjoy 6 different types of hand-crafted wine. Tastings cost $15 per person during the week and $20 per person on weekends.

If you're just in the mood for wine-tasting, you can explore the ground's beautiful vineyards and save the cave for later too. Spring is coming and this is a lovely way to spend it!

There are even a dog menu and dog-friendly patio outside, so you can bring your furry friend along! While you're in the area, you should also check out these scenic spots that are seriously underrated

It's time to plan that BFF trip and sip all the wine you've been dreaming of this week.
