Reality Meets 'FernGully' At This Super Tall Hidden Waterfall In Colorado
We thought the song said to go chase waterfalls...
If you binge-watched "The Vampire Diaries" as we did, you'd love the name of this dreamy place. Mystic Falls in Colorado is a real hidden gem that's not on any map and takes some exploring to find. You can wade through the creek along the way and walk straight up to the rocks where it cascades down, getting up close and personal with this enchanting waterfall.
The falls are unknown to even some locals, and you will feel like you found a secret spot in the woods.
Mystic Falls is located near Telluride, and you can park at the trailhead before working your way down to the bottom of the cliffs where the water showers down.
You will feel like you're following a treasure map, and thelooks like something straight out of FernGully.
According to Outdoor Project, you can get to the falls by taking 145 West to the roundabout just outside of Telluride, then take a left. You'll want to turn right at Illium Road and make a sharp left turn toward Ames.
Take another left on the small dirt road after the electrical station. You can park just past a small brown cabin on the right then hike to the main parking area to avoid driving on a trickier patch of road.
Stay towards your right when the road forks. You'll want to follow the trail to the left of the parking lot into the woods. The coordinates of the falls are 37.863094, -107.882254.
There are a lot of private properties around the falls, so make sure to keep an eye out for signs and landmarks to avoid trespassing.
While they weren't a part of our favorite vampire-themed show, we still love the name and the woodsy area that gives us all the moody vibes.
If a vampire did appear while we were hiking here, we wouldn't even be shocked (or mad).
So if you need a good "The Vampire Diaries" throwback adventure, or you just want to explore the path less traveled, Mystic Falls will have you feeling like you're starring in a supernatural flick.
