This Romantic Trend From Europe Is Slowly Taking Over A Jacksonville Bridge
Lock it away.
Instead of carving your name on a tree, lock your love in this Florida bridge. What started as a trend in Europe, it has expanded to Florida and now Northbank Riverwalk is home to another love lock bridge.
The Northbank Riverwalk offers a fantastic view of the St. Johns River and is a perfect place to stroll around. But locals have turned this spot into a place to lock your love away. Many people come here and leave an engraved padlock with their names on the fence.
According to JDR, hundreds of lock has been places since the first one was removed. There are plenty of Love Lock Bridges across Europe including Rome, Prague, Cologne, and more.
The tradition started 15 years ago in Europe and since then more locks have been spread around America. The idea is that once people attach the lock to the bridge and throw the keys to the water, their love is eternal.
Unfortunately, some cities have had to cut some of the locks due to the excess weight on the bridge.
Despite some previous collapses on other bridges, this trend continues to live strong. Locals from Jacksonville are hoping that the city does not cut the locks again.
According to Lisa Rinaman for JDR, throwing the keys into the water can have an environmental impact - so maybe keep the keys for another use!
So, if you want to have a romantic date and express your sincere love to your partner, come to the bridge and lock your love. Or maybe you just want to come to lock your pain away and let it go. All it takes is a space on the fence.
Address: located on the fence around a stretch of the Northbank Riverwalk.
