Stargazing sights are numerous in Florida but there are only a few places where you can see Jupiter in all its glory. Deering Estate in Miami is hosting a Jupiter watch party where you can see it over Biscayne Bay this month.
The Jupiter watch party is presented by the Southern Cross Astronomical Society, one of the oldest amateur astronomical societies in the Western Hemisphere. The Deering Estate holds one of the best observatory sites to watch the planets and this location is home to 87 acres of pine rockland, different bird species, and other endangered lands with one of the most diverse natural resources.
There are many public activities offered throughout the month and the location is popular for its historic structures. The Deering Estate is also registered on the National Register of Historic Places.
Visitors can do many things when visiting the historic site such as attend events, participate lectures and workshops, watch a concert, embark on tours and adventures, and more.
The Jupiter Watch is one of the many cosmic and signature events they host. The Southern Cross Astronomical Society will have telescopes on site to watch Jupiter up close and is one of the few areas in Florida you can watch it clearly.
The event costs $10 to non-members and is free for Deering Estate members. Guests are welcomed to bring blankets and picnic chairs to enjoy a relaxing evening. The event will be held on June 20th at 8 pm and you can purchase your tickets in advance here.
If you are fascinated by the astros and looking for a romantic and unique date, this is the spot. Full moons are special but watching the biggest planet in the solar system is stellar. If you happen to miss this event, there will be another next month in July!
