This Hidden Museum On A Florida Beach Is Basically The Smithsonian Of Kink
Not your average exhibition.
There is a place hidden in the beach that contains the biggest collection of erotic art and few things that will make you a little confused. The World Erotic Art Museum is an education and art center featuring fine erotic art from all around the world.
This museum is the only one in the United States devoted to fine erotic art and few kinky objects that you probably have never seen in your life. The museum is located in a busy corner in South Beach but its unattractive facade makes it a hidden treasure for tourists and even locals. The WEAM includes over 4000 works of international art, ranging from 300 BCE to the immediate present.
The objects presented at this museum are eccentric, unusual and maybe a little bit abnormal. We suggest you visit with an open mind as you will learn erotic art from previous civilizations and original work from international artists.
The museum was founded by Naomi Wilzig, a collector of weird things and bizarre tchotchkes. She began collecting many items at her home and later on presenting them at universities. With the support of her family, Wilzing was able to build the institution.
Once you enter the museum you will get a brief history of Magnus Hirschfeld, a German sex researcher whose art collection and library were burned by the Nazis in 1933.
The museum continues growing and expanding with new objects. Don't be surprised if you see many private human parts in the shape of a gun, chair and even bed frame. You can see a larger gallery of photos here.
WEAM will expand your vision and ideas of sex culture and what it meant in early civilizations. If you are not into bar hopping, tell your friends to meet you here. Entrance to the museum cost $20 and is open Monday-Thursday from 11 am to 10 pm and Friday-Sunday from 11 am to 12 midnight.
World Erotic Art Museum is located at 1205 Washington Avenue Miami Beach, Florida 33139.
