With so many things to do in Florida, it can be hard to overlook some of the best. Wekiwa Springs is an oasis in Orlando, known for its pristine waters, lush flora, and even it’s lazy toothed fauna. Every summer, the spring reaches its capacity fast, and it’s no surprise why. It’s easy to forget your just miles away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando.
But just minutes away from the populated waters, there is another gem of Florida’s natural springs. It’s called Wekiva Island, and it is absolutely blissful.
Family owned and operated, the Island is a strong proponent of lessening one’s carbon footprint and it has taken measures across their 2000 square foot area to do exactly that.
By adopting the 2030 challenge, they aim to be carbon-neutral by that year by reducing their fossil fuel consumption in all of their buildings.
Currently, 146 solar panels are used to power the island, 66 onsite and 80 offsite, the island partners with certain eco-friendly brands to provide goods to customers, and they stray away from traditional landscaping to keep all of the natural plants in the area.
What this means is that you can feel extra good while sipping on something nice from the onsite Tooting Otter Craft Beer, Wine Bar & General Store, or while leisurely floating down the river while taking in all the beautiful natural sites.
For various rental fees, guests can check out canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards for a full day or half-day. Guests who already own vessels are welcome to bring them. And with a constant 72-degree water temperature, you can always go swimming off the boardwalk or other designated areas.
If you’re more on the landlubbing side, the Island also offers a volleyball court and cabanas for reservation. Along with drinks at the Tooting Otter Bar, Without a Paddle Café has a savory menu with all of Florida’s seafood favorites. Gator tacos, blackened Mahi Mahi, and some delicious veggie burgers for any plant-based guests. The best part? They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
At the end of the month, they’ll be celebrating their 11th anniversary, and it’s the perfect time to check out rental canoes and draft beer at deduces prices! Bliss it up at Wekiva Island!
