History is fascinating, especially when you can hold it with your own two hands. At the 33rd Annual Tampa Bay Fossil Fest, you can do just that. This Florida festival will feature a massive selection of rare, fossils, shark teeth, gemstones, crystals, and more!
There are tons of cool places to go hunting for your own fossils in Florida, and even mines to dig around for crystals. But if you’re wanting to bypass the down and dirty part of the hunt, this festival is a great place to start.
Held on the second weekend of March at the Florida State Fairgrounds, you can check out amazing displays of unearthed treasures, and even join in on paleo workshops.
At Fossil Fest's workshops, you’ll learn all about Florida's prehistoric past. All workshops are free to festival attendees, and you get a chance to listen to pro collectors tips as they teach you how to find, identify, and preserve your very own fossil treasures.
The festival starts at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 15. The festival is $8 at the door for adults, and free for kids 12 and under.
It will also feature games for the dino and fossil obsessed kiddos, a fossil mine, raffles, door prizes, and silent auctions on an array of items.
The festival is hosted by Prehistoric Florida, who have been selling authentic fossils and treasures from Florida’s past since 2000.
Prehistoric Florida specializes in the ancient treasures found in Florida’s rivers.
They carry a wide variety of pieces, including fossils from mastodons, mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and even giant armadillo. You’ll also find plenty of shark teeth from megalodons, auriculatus, and makos.
Prehistoric Florida pride themselves on accurately describing and authenticating each of their pieces.
Their motto is “people are more important than rocks,” and so they also offer a 30-day no questions asked return policy if you find yourself displeased with your purchase from them.
Most of their fossils are collected on dives and searches through Florida rivers, along with a network of other divers who also showcase their treasures with Prehistoric Florida.
Take a step back in time and experience the Sunshine State before people ever walked on its land! And maybe even find a treasure to take home yourself.
