Florida’s hiking trails take you to some incredible places, from crystal clear springs, to forests of untouched trees that make you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. Sometimes, though, the journey is really the destination, and at the Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve in Florida, that’s definitely the case. With miles of thrilling bike tracks for all levels and some scenic walk paths to boot, you should definitely add this trail to your list of places to check out this summer.

With Florida state parks beginning to reopen, Balm Boyette was among those who became accessible to the public just this week, but with some restrictions.

Certain parking spaces are closed off, as well as the pavilion, and social distancing is a must. You can check up on their Facebook page, run by Swamp Mountain Bike Club, for updates.

Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve is found on almost 4,900 acres in Hillsborough County, toting 23 miles of singletrack trails and 15 miles of double track and multipurpose routes.

If you’re already pining over the picturesque forest scenery, don’t worry, you don’t have to be a biker to enjoy these trails. With trails for all levels, you can hike fish, and even bring your furry friends along.

The Swamp Mountain Bike Club offers a detailed map of the available trails, so you can scout out your adventure ahead of time.

This is a great place for beginners and seasoned riders alike. The preserve features 12 separate easy trails, 14 intermediate, and 8 challenging routes.

If you’re hitting the trails with your boots instead of tires, make sure before you set off that you’re on a hiking trail and not a bike route, because there is no foot traffic allowed on bike trails.

Happy biking!
