Anime has always been popular, but it seems over the past few years the boom of Netflix really gave the cartoon genre a lane to connect with more potential lovers. The cool animations and intensely deep storylines have pulled even more into many fandoms. You can bring your love of all things anime to this year's Anime Weekend Atlanta in October and fangirl over your faves with like-minded folks.
Anime Weekend Atlanta is Oct. 31 through Nov. 3. and will be held in the Cobb Galleria and Renaissance Waverly Hotel. The weekend-long convention is meant for all the Japanese animation and manga lover to congregate for four days and gush over their fave shows, video games, art and what's coming next. This event is not only for four days, it's also for 24 hours each day. The event officially kicks off Thursday afternoon and ends Sunday evening.
Similar to Comic Con and Atlanta's Dragon Con, guests are encouraged (and normally partake) in dressing up as their favorite fictional characters. The cosplay skills are too real. This massive event has a bunch of mini events happening each day so you'll want to plan accordingly.
There's a "Dealer's Room" where the organizers will display licensed merch from well-known animes and manga and other assorted fandoms. This area will not be open on Thursday, but will be available to peruse from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the rest of the weekend. There's also the "Artists Alley" where artists, both professional and amateur, will showcase their anime-inspired art including jewelry, clothing (streetwear and cosplay pieces) and accessories in other mediums. This is available Friday through Sunday with a early closure on Sunday.
There will be a fashion show (for the serious cosplayers) and a "Manga Library," which is quoted on the AWA website as being the most expansive manga library in Georgia. You can sit and get a read in while there's chaos going on every which way.
If you balance your time accordingly, you may even see (or hear) a few famous voices from your well known shows and movies, including the popular The Dragon Prince. There will be scheduled panels, but no official word on the topics of each panel. To get the full scoop of what's happening at this epic event, you should register and purchase your tickets now to stay up-to-date. Tickets are starting at only $35!
Don't miss out on this packed event; if you need even more places to dress up and live out your superhero or fairy or mermaid dreams, then you have to check out the Halloween parade in Atlanta or the Mardi Gras-inspired parade party in Athens if you're down for a roadtrip.
