Atlanta's SunTrust Park Will Transform Into A Winter Wonderland For 2 Days In December
It's a mini winter Olympics with 800 tons of snow.
Its been 23 years since Atlanta hosted the Olympics and with the Georgia heat, no one could ever fathom The Peach State being home to any type of winter sports. Although we do usually get a tiny bit of snow each year, our time to make snow angels and have snowball fights is extremely limited. This year that could all change because SunTrust Park in Atlanta is transforming into a winter wonderland for a skiing and snowboarding competition
SunTrust Park, housed in popular hangout spot The Battery, is now the home stadium for our beloved Braves (chop on). The tables are definitely turning from sun-soaked seats in the stadium to a cold and snowy mini Olympics setup.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard and the Atlanta Braves are collabing to bring us "Visa Big Air at SunTrust Park" on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. The winter event will be a sanctioned FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Cup, which is held in Utah. A 15-story steel scaffold jump structure will be installed in the stadium, making you feel like you're actually in Deer Valley.
There will be 800 tons of snow brought to the stadium, turning our heat-tarnished state into a realistic northern mountain range.
You'll see the athletes perform jaw-dropping tricks 70 feet in the air after launching themselves at jump speeds of 40 MPH. Pack up your parkas and bring your binoculars because you are in for a cold and snowy treat filled with winter sports that will have you wondering if you're actually in Georgia. You can even get tickets for as low as $25.
