When you picture Washington D.C., the first thing that comes to mind is probably the White House or The Washington Monument. The historical district is filled with young urban professionals, gorgeous sites and tons to do. Unfortunately, D.C. is considered one of the most expensivies cities in the U.S. so it can be a bit challenging to travel there to make your Olivia Pope dreams come true. However, you don't need to go far to get the full White House experience because there's a mini White House replica in Atlanta.
The 16,500 square-foot Atlanta White House replica, just off I-85 on Briarcliff Road, was built in the early 2000s as a tribute to American democracy. The gorgeous mansion, equipped with massive columns, lush green pastures with a garden, a wrought-iron fence, and an American flag waving from the rooftop will have you questioning whether or not you are looking at the real thing.
The hidden gem is not only the real deal on the outside, the inside includes an Oval Office-inspired setup, a movie theatre and "Lincoln's Bedroom." The original owner, who also built the home, was all about having visitors come check it out.
The house was foreclosed upon in 2011, but, according to a 2016 AJC article, the property is now owned by a family which is more into keeping it to themselves. Afterall, it is a home and residents seek privacy (can relate).
There are no current details about whether the house is open for touring, but it's definitely worth the short trip to bask in all its glory from the outside. It's a great photo opp that will make you feel like you took a Scandal-esque D.C. adventure without leaving home.
