There Will Be FREE WaHo Waffles At Georgia’s Waffle House Museum Next Month
There's no catch, you just have to show up!
There's only one thing on this planet that's better than a late-night run to Waffle House - FREE Waffle House waffles. National Waffle Day on August 24 is especially special to us Georgians because Georgia is the home to the very first Waffle House in the nation (bow down). That same original Waffle House is giving out free waffle samples next month to commemorate what should be an official national holiday.
The OG Waffle House first opened up back in 1955 in Avondale Estates to give the area the only 24-hour restaurant. Since then, that restaurant has been transformed into a worthy memorial museum that pays homage to the iconic location that's now in 25 states.
The museum is super cute because it's stylized to take you back to the 50s, with all the decade appropriate decor.
It's always free to check out the museum on your own, but the addition of the free waffles will be the icing on the cake (that WaHo should add to the menu). Because it's an open house, there will also be tours to walk you through the history of how this franchise blew up.
People drive from different states to get in on these open houses that only happen periodically throughout the year. Otherwise, you have to call in an make a reservation. The open houses have been dubbed a "pilgrimage" by the fanatics and WaHo lovers alike.
Part of the dynamic legendary duo who created WaHo, Tom Forkner, might be there. You might want to shake his hand so some of that success can rub off on you.
You should hold off on filling up until noon because that's when doors will open. The event ends at 3 p.m., so there's no time to be tardy.
You can't officially consider yourself a real Georgian until you make your trek to the original holy house of waffles. If you're looking for more freebies,. Georgians are so spoiled.
