Georgia's Chalktoberfest Is A Huge Boozy Block Party With Extreme Chalk Art This October
You'll be in (drunk) awe of these insane murals.
While millions of people flock to Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest, Georgia is hosting its own version that puts an eccentric twist on the classic festival. If you're looking for fun art things to do in Atlanta this October, "Chalktoberfest" combines the insane amount of booze with art. However, this isn't just any art; artists gather as one to create giant chalk murals that belong right beside the Mona Lisa. Quite frankly, the intricate murals they create put your childhood chalk art to shame.
On Oct. 12 and 13, the Marietta Square hosts Chalktoberfest, a completely free festival that features the most unique chalk art competition. You'll fall into a trance when you witness how these artists take something as simple as chalk and transform it.
86 artists are flying in from all over the world to show off their skills. You'll see Mexico, Ukraine, Argentina and basically every U.S. state represented. It's more than just a festival, it's a cultural experience.
While entry and the art-viewing are completely free, you can take things to another level by purchasing a bottomless drink ticket. This ticket grants you access to over 120 types of brew and 25 types of wine, so you're covered no matter what your preference is.
If you purchase your drink tickets now, it's $40. Otherwise, on the day of it's $45. Tickets are not guaranteed to be available day of, so it pays to be early. Multiple streets in Marietta are shut off just for the event, so you know it'll be packed out.
While you're walking the multicolored streets, you'll be surrounded by live music, product vendors, games, and food, so there's entertainment around every corner.
If you want to put your chalk skills to the test with people of your caliber (and not the van Goghs), the community chalk art competition will allow your inner creative to flourish.
The festivities begin at noon and wrap up at 5 p.m. both days.
If you're ready to channel your inner German partier, you can keep with the Oktoberfest theme by celebrating. If you're just there for the art, you can check out an
