With the changing of the seasons comes the sweets of nature. While we love all the flowers in the spring, there's nothing like seeing all the colorful fruit grow on the trees and eventually cover the ground. With fall, we can bet there's seasonal fruits and veggies around the corner. Honestly, what's autumn without pumpkin pie? Well, you'll have a chance to go pumpkin picking in Georgia at one of the most Instagrammed farms in the state.
Southern Belle Farm is in McDonough, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. The 330-acre farm truly lives up to its name because if anything says "southern" is a huge farm just ripe for the picking. Southern Belle is a family-run farm and has been up and running for five generations of the Carter family.
To this day, they run all year round with fresh produce and dairy always for sale at their Country Market (also on the property). They encourage folks to stop by anytime to see what's new and stay up to date on the fruits, veggies, honey, jams and pickled items they house.
In the spring it's strawberries, in the summer it's peaches, but in the fall season, pumpkins are the real show stoppers. We Georgians love peaches all year round so you can rest assured there's some still left over from the summer harvest. The two-acre pumpkin patch is open for anyone to walk through to find the perfect pumpkin for pies, seeds and yes, carving one up for the porch for Halloween.
Outside of their amazing delectables, Southern Belle hosts a slew of events for every season. The fall events officially kick off on Sept. 21 and end Nov. 3. The website also shows days that are free admission for teachers, cancer survivors, police officers, military and fire fighters.
Some of the activities on the farm includes hog racing (we're still in Georgia, you know), getting lost in a four-acre corn maze, going on a hayride, rubber duck racing, racing pedal carts, renting a fire pit for a campfire under the stars and so much more. If you do decide to enjoy a campfire on the farm, you will be able to enjoy a few s'mores (kits are $2.50 each) and hotdogs for $6.50. If you spring for the combo of both, you'll dish out only $8.50. Definitely save yourself that $0.50 in this economy.
This is the perfect place to add to your fall bucket list to enjoy the season and really get into the (almost) holiday spirit. While it's still the great outdoors and animals are everywhere, the farm does not permit any pets on the property due to the high number of guests and farm animals. Service animals, however, are allowed with proper documention.
If you're looking to get out fo the city and spend some time with friends, this is the perfect place to bring the crew. If your team is more into the spooky side of fall, then make sure you tell them about The Walking Dead zombie escape room in Atlanta.
