Savannah is one of those cities that you can go, find a park, and just relax. There are so many around the city and all of them serve a different purpose. Locals and visitors gather everyday around these parks, but one seems to stand out above the rest. Forsyth Park has many amenities for everyone in your group, and it is sure to make for a chill day.
Forsyth Park is over 30 acres and is one of the larger parks in the entire district. In this park, there are many places to lay out a blanket and have a picnic, which is what most visitors do. If you are more into sports, there is a tennis and basketball court that anyone is welcomed to play on.
The main amenity that the park is known for is its fountain. The Forsyth Park fountain is over 150 years old, but you would never know that just by looking at it. You can find similar fountains around the world in places like France and New York.
Savannah is the place to be on St. Patrick's Day and Forsyth Park is where everyone hangs out. The water in the fountain is actually turned green, and a very pretty green at that. There are many pictures taken at this location and we are sure you have seen some on Instagram.
Not only is the fountain the thing to see, but the farmer's market on Saturdays also brings many people in the community together. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can explore the market and interact with the vendors. You will see booths from Better Fresh Farms, Savannah River Farms, and Canewater Farm.
Another way the city brings the community together at this location is having concerts and events at the amphitheatre that is right in Forsyth Park. This fall, there will be different festivals held here for free, like the Savannah Jazz Festival. Bands will be on the stage playing, while you explore the different vendors the event has to offer.
There are always free events going on each season during the year. You should take advantage of the events to meet those in your community and to experience something out of your usual schedule. Here is a list of a few that are happening the rest of the year and in the upcoming year.
If you are visiting Savannah and just cannot get enough of it, you need to spend the night and explore for a few days. You can stay in one of the city's most haunted hotels and you might just be able to interact with some ghosts.
Forsyth Park has something for everyone to do. In any season, you can find a spot on the grass and break out a good book and just stay awhile.
