Even though Detroit is definitely gaining a reputation as a fun city for young people and professionals, it still doesn't get the same treatment as Chicago and New York. However, once you spend a few hours at the Frankenmuth Ice Rink at Campus Martius downtown, you might be more convinced that Detroit deserves that cool city fame.

Rockefeller Center in New York City is an iconic image that pops up in all of your favorite Christmas movies during the holiday season. The towering lighted tree is a symbol of the festivities that come in December.

Well, get ready to see Detroit in a whole new way. When you're skating on this rink in the evening, lit up by the beautiful lights, there will be no question to the city's status as a cultural hub.

The ice rink is a part of the Campus Martius park for the wintry season and it's become the social center of Downtown Detroit.

You'll see families, couples, and people just there to have fun. It's a place that you need to add to your winter bucket list this year.

There are a lot of places to eat and drink once you get tired of skating.

Parc is the higher end restaurant in Campus Martius. They have delicious drinks during happy hour and their dining room offers a great view of the skaters enjoying themselves.

Cadillac Lodge is just down the street and is a winter pop-up that you should check out while you still have a chance. They offer hot drinks with booze in them, which is pretty much perfect after a long evening of skating.

While you're in Downtown Detroit, you should also check out these winter date ideas or this cozy holiday lodge
