This spring, on the shores of Lake St. Clair, some magic is coming to metro Detroit. This event has been traveling across the country and now it's our turn to see the lake light up. The Water Lantern Festival will bring an evening of magic to a beautiful park.

This event is going to take place on May at Lake St. Clair Metropark. It will have food trucks, live music, and, of course, the main event, the lights.

They're opening the gates that lead to the enticing food trucks at 5 p.m. and by 10:30 p. m. you'll have set your lantern off on its journey.

Every ticket includes all of the supplies you need to make a lantern that's specifically meaningful to you.

The action of decorating the lantern with something meaningful, intentionally lighting it up, and setting it free in the water brings some tranquility to your night, especially if you're with good people.

Bring your best friends and a picnic blanket and enjoy an evening of peace and beauty!

You're also allowed to bring beer and wine to the event as long as it is in a can, as the park doesn't allow glass bottles on their grounds.

If dumping a bunch of candles and paper into the lake sounds like it could be bad for the environment, you have nothing to worry about.

Part of your ticket price covers the cost of a cleaning crew.

The candles are actually an LED light. Both those and the lanterns themselves will be retrieved after the show and recycled or reused.

When the golden light is reflecting against the dark rippling water and you're next to your closest friends, you'll definitely feel the magic.

If you're looking for more magical spots in Detroit, you can head over to the murals at Eastern Market or check out a colorful art project like nothing you've seen before
