One of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit is to take in the Christmas lights. This light fest has been a tradition of Wayne County for 26 years and it is absolutely worth checking out if this is the first time you're hearing about it.

This is the largest light fest in the Midwest and you should add it to your Christmas bucket list ASAP.

It's a pretty incredible trail that stretches for 4.5 miles and has over 100,000 lights to gaze at from your car.

The light fest charges a $5 admission fee for every car that enters the trail, so if you go with a group of friends that's insanely affordable!

On weekends, there will likely be a line of cars waiting to drive through the lights, so if you're short on time you might want to visit on a weekday.

This trail is a local tradition and for good reason. The road is lined by your normal holiday fare, such as Christmas trees and images of Santa and his reindeer. You'll also find more unusual light displays such as dinosaurs and an abominable snowman.

The festival started in the '90s as a way to raise some money for the local parks department and to bring families together. Over the years, it's become a holiday activity that you simply can't miss.

The festival is located about 25 minutes from Downtown Detroit and is worth the trek.

Once you reach the end of the trail, you can step into Santa's workshop for a quick photo op.

If you're looking for other festive activities to light up your holiday season check out this reindeer farm that lets you feed Santa's helpers or the largest Christmas store in the world
