Austin’s Kite Festival Is Officially Returning Next Month With The City’s Best Eats
Come sail away, come sail away.
Many would argue that flying kites is for children, and, for every person that would, there's an Austinite ready to counter that argument. Austin's annual kite festival brings the city together for a day of kite making, flying, and most importantly, gazing. This year the festival is celebrating its 91st year at Zilker Park and the festivities are going to be out of this world.
On Sunday, March 29, the 91st ABC Kite Festival is taking place at Zilker Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's every Austinite's favorite excuse to go out and visit Zilker, aside from maybe.
This festival has been long-awaited since last year's and finally, it's almost a month away. The month of March is a popular one for many festivities and holidays, so it makes sense as to why it's held in March every year.
If you're someone who doesn't have a kite waiting at home to be soared through the Austin skies, there's no need to worry. On the day of the fest, you can make your kite on-site!
They've truly thought of everything, including what kind of food and drink is making an appearance to keep everyone nice and full throughout the day. A long day of kite sailing can really, after all.
The kite festival's website promises to provide the best eats and drinks from around ATX. They also posted a photo of some tasty funnel cakes we haven't quite taken our eyes off of. Yum!
Before or after getting your hands on some grub, be sure to check out one of the many kite contests going on throughout the day.
You can register for one yourself from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fest, but remember that the competition allows handmade, single kite lines only!
You could win "Strongest Pulling Kite," "Steadiest Kite," "Largest Kite," and the list goes on.
Each category is listed on their website here, and a registration link will be provided on the site soon for those who'd like to register in advance.
Whether you're at Zilker next month to compete against others, sit back and watch kites flood the skies, or devour Austin's best food and drink, this is the fest for you.
