Austin is a city known for its traditions. When people visit the capitol of Texas, they expect a certain level of amazement to be achieved. And to no one's surprise, they never leave disappointed! When March of next year rolls around, they'll have even more of a reason to stop by the mesmerizing city of Austin. Thousands, that's right, thousands of kites will be filling the city's sky for one of Austin's longest-running traditions.
On Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Zilker Park will be filled with thousands of Austinites, as well as people from all over, participating in the ABC Kite Fest for the 91st year! Not many traditions last this long, but Austin and its residents were determined to make it stick. There will be competitions, food and drinks, and much more getting us pumped for the new year. Here we come 2020!
While their official website has not yet been updated, a Facebook event page has been created where already 18k people are interested in going to the fest. Entrance into the festival is completely free and so is competing in different kite contests. Who knows, you might leave Zilker with a trophey.
The categories for last year's competitions included strongest pulling kite, smallest kite, most unusual kite, and more! We're guessing the categories will be the same, if not extremely similar. They only allow handmade kites to be entered in the competition, but you've still got time to prepare.
If Zilker is one of your favorite places in the world, we don't blame you. Plenty of fun events go on there, including one of the most iconic music fests in the world. ABC Kite Fest is only a few months away and we're already counting down the days until it's here.
